The FAA has reported that more than 100,000 enthusiasts have obtained a Remote Pilot Certificate to fly a drone for commercial and recreational use since the FAA small drone rule went into effect on August 29, 2016. Under Part 107, the person actually flying a UAS must have a Remote Pilot Certificate, or be directly supervised by someone with such a certificate. GE9X Continues March Toward Certification

Testing Comes After 10 Years Of Technology Maturation For Engine Components

GE Aviation has successfully completed one-third of the 25 major test campaigns required for certification of the GE9X, and is on track to certify the engine next year. GE9X, the largest commercial engine in aviation history, will power Boeing's new 777X aircraft. "We're really hitting our stride with the program, and I am very pleased with progress toward certification," said GE9X General Manager Ted Ingling. "The engine is meeting all its performance objectives with no significant findings, which shows the value of the most extensive technology maturation ever on a GE engine program."

Lockheed Martin has embraced a 3-D printed titanium dome for satellite fuel tanks so big you can't even put your arms around it. The 46-inch-diameter vessel completed final rounds of quality testing this month, ending a multi-year development program to create giant, high-pressure tanks that carry fuel on board satellites.

Company Manufactures The F-35's Weapons Bay Door Drive System At Its Wolverhampton, U.K., Facility

UTC Aerospace Systems is expanding its U.K.-based MRO service capabilities to support the F-35 Lightning II. The company is a key supplier to the F-35, providing a range of content including electric and actuation systems, landing gear and air data management sensing technology. The first four of the 138 F-35B's that the U.K. Ministry of Defense has committed to purchasing arrived at RAF Marham in June.
