Vietnam Airlines Becomes World's Second A350 XWB Operator

First Of 14 Of The Airplanes The Carrier Has On Order Delivered

Vietnam Airlines has become the second airline in the world to operate the A350 XWB, following a special ceremony in Toulouse Monday. The A350-900 aircraft was delivered to global lessor AerCap on lease to the airline for operation on long haul routes and was scheduled to arrive in Hanoi Tuesday. Altogether, Vietnam Airlines is set to acquire 14 A350 XWBs, including 10 ordered from Airbus and four from lessors.

UAVs Force Firefighting Aircraft To Break Off Run

Forest Service Tells Public That UAVs Can Prevent Firefighters From Doing Their Job

A DC-10 carrying nearly 11,000 gallons of fire retardant was forced to break off its run near Big Bear Lake in California last Wednesday when the crew spotted what they described as a "hobby drone" flying at about 11,000 feet above sea level in the area. Two smaller planes also broke off their runs, and all were forced to jettison their loads before landing ... but not on the fire.

The FAA has issued a SAFO (Safety Alert for Operators) for Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-14B engines following three documented engine failures caused by failed flyweight screws. These failures occurred during flight, resulting in forced landings. At the time of the failures, engine time since overhaul ranged from 2.5 hours to 671.6 hours.
