Flight Attendants At Continental Micronesia, Ryan Ratify Contracts

First Ever Deal For Ryan International FAs

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) at Continental Micronesia ratified a contract extension with United Continental Holdings Friday, covering the carrier's over 275 flight attendants based in Guam. The agreement, which includes job security improvements as well as flexibility and economic growth, was approved by nearly 80 percent of Continental Micronesia flight attendants.

Piedmont Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), has sent what they say is a "loud and clear message" that if management fails to negotiate a new agreement, a strike could result at the airline. The strike was authorized by 98 percent of participating flight attendants.

Pilot Plans Sydney-To-London Flight On Fuel Made Of Plastic

Hopes To Set Two Records With The Attempt

Australian pilot Jeremy Rowsell is to set off on a record breaking flight from Sydney to London in a single engine aircraft powered 100 per cent by fuel made from plastic waste. Rowsell will fly a Cessna 182 solo, cruising mainly at 5,000 feet, sometimes in 13 hour stretches, along the same route used by the barnstorming pilots of the 1920s and 1930s.

Curiosity Zaps Martian Rocks For Science

Fires 'ChemCam' Laser For The First Time

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity fired its laser for the first time on Mars, using the beam from a science instrument to interrogate a fist-size rock called "Coronation." The mission's Chemistry and Camera instrument, or ChemCam, hit the fist-sized rock with 30 pulses of its laser during a 10-second period. Each pulse delivers more than a million watts of power for about five one-billionths of a second.

Launch Of Suborbital Sounding Rocket Scheduled For August 23

University students will put their academic skills to the test when atmospheric and technology experiments they developed fly on a NASA suborbital sounding rocket. The launch will take place between 0630 and 1000 EDT, Thursday, Aug. 23, from the agency's Wallops Flight Facility at Wallops Island, VA.

A chartered government helicopter went down in Sudan Sunday resulting in the fatal injury of all 32 people on board. The delegation, which included the minister of endowment, two army generals, and a TV crew were traveling to the South Kordofan state for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
