In a letter released to HBC staff, Friday, CEO Bill Boisture started the notification process that many feared would occur just a few days after HBC posted less than positive news about a Third Quarter in which the company experienced, "...a decrease in revenues during the third quarter of 2011 as compared to the same period of 2010. However, the Company realized an improvement to gross margin, operating loss, and net loss for the third quarter of 2011 as compared to the same period of 2010." Twenty-Three Senators Send Message To President Obama That Fees Will Stifle Economic Recovery

It looks like user fees are not going to be imposed on GA without a fight. A bipartisan group of 23 senators has sent a letter to President Obama opposing the idea. The November 2 letter, sponsored by Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS), strongly opposes the $100 per-flight tax on turbine-powered aircraft and other proposed user fees the president has offered congress as part of a deficit-reduction package.

London To Singapore Flight Diverted To Dubai

A Qantas A380 on a flight from London to Singapore was forced to divert to Dubai Friday after the airplane developed a problem in one of its engines ... one year to the day after the uncontained failure of a Qantas A380 engine caused the airline's entire superjumbo fleet to be grounded for nearly a month.

Compares Sporty Soyuz To Truck-Like NASA Space Shuttles

NASA's now retired Space Shuttle was big. Critics of the fleet's retirement liked to liken it to a spacegoing truck, noting that no other spacecraft could take its place when large or heavy objects had to get to the International Space Station. Celebration Held To Commemorate Orville Wright's 1911 Soaring Record

A grass-roots partnership of the primary sporting soaring associations in the US, with the help of Kitty Hawk-based First Flight Foundation, celebrated the centennial of Orville Wright’s record soaring flight of 9 minutes 45 seconds set on October 24, 1911. The event, called SOARING100, attracted over 10,000 visitors to the Outer Banks, NC venues of Jockey’s Ridge State Park and Wright Brothers National Memorial over the weekend of October 21-24.

First Step Toward Planned Space Station

Two Chinese spacecraft successfully docked Wednesday, marking China's first step in an ambitious plan to built and man its own space station by 2020. The Shenzhou VIII spacecraft, which was launched earlier this week, docked with the Tiangong-1 module which had been launched last month.
