Control Vision Announces Pocket MFD -- Next Generation Handheld GPS

Plans a Complete System Give-Away Contest at AOPA Expo

Control Vision, makers of award-winning Anywhere Map, Anywhere Wx, and Pocket Plates has just raised the bar on handheld GPS systems with a suite of advanced capabilities. The Kansas company announced Anywhere Map Version 1.6; a next-generation moving map application with new features such as advanced VNAV, improved weather integration, an all-new Emergency Landing Mode, improved graphics, and user-definable views. The system takes advantage of the new Hewlett Packard iPAQ 4700 series PDA with a larger, higher resolution color screen, higher performance, and slim form factor. This sleek system mounts in a newly designed Citadel mount that protects the connector and makes installation a snap.

“We call it the Pocket MFD”, said Jay Humbard, President and CEO. “A pilot now has a complete GPS navigation system including XM WX weather avoidance and legal instrument approach plates, all on a system that still slips into a shirt pocket.”

Humbard pointed out that General Aviation is seeing the days of proprietary handheld GPS systems that supply only navigation coming to a close. “Pilots are asking,” said Humbard, “why should I buy a brick-sized unit that won’t do anything different three years from now than the day it comes out of the box?”

“We continually advance Anywhere Map’s features and functions with software upgrades that cost a third of competitors’ data-only subscriptions,” he said. “When you add XM weather and Pocket Plates, you have all the functionality of a glass cockpit in the palm of your hand; Safety, Efficiency, Increased Aircraft Utility—all for a fraction of the initial and ongoing cost of panel systems.”

“Anywhere Map is the Swiss Army Knife of GPS systems,” commented Aero-News.net’s Jim Campbell.
