Blue Swallow Aircraft Announces Antique Aircraft Wood Working Class

Blue Swallow Aircraft sent a note to ANN describing a unique wood working class for individuals interested in antique aircraft construction and methods. The classes will take place in Keswick, VA, on Sept. 12th and13th 2009. Keswick is conveniently located two hours south of Washington, DC and one hour west of Richmond, VA near historic Charlottesville, VA.

This program will include instruction in wood selection and grading, cutting rough planks to size, jig building, steaming and bending of wood, selection of adhesives and other wood fasteners, and techniques for splicing of spars and other wood structures.

This class is a great opportunity for someone interested in building or restoring an aircraft made of wood. No previous experience required. All materials are provided. The class is small to ensure that each student receives the best possible instruction.

Blue Swallow Aircraft, LLC has been in the business of building antique aircraft and aircraft components since 1989. They are currently building two airworthy AVRO 504 reproductions using original techniques and procedures. They tell ANN that they have the capability to produce just about any part for antique aircraft, metal or wood.
