Aero-TV: Waco Aircraft Update - Yes! A Waco On Floats!

Amphibious Biplane For The Wet Set May Debut At AirVenture…

How do you sum up Waco aircraft? "We're in the fun business," Peter Bowers, president of Waco Aircraft Company, told ANN CEO and Editor in Chief Jim Campbell this spring at Sun 'n Fun.

How much fun? How about a Waco biplane ... on floats. The airplane ... the Waco YMF-5F ... is based on the YMF-5D airframe. The floats are from Aerocet.

That's one of the most recent developments to come out of Waco's Skunk Worx (Skunk Works is a registered trademark of Lockheed Martin). The airplane is designed to not only put a smile on the pilot's face, but also on the passenger's face, Bowers said; or in this case faces. The Waco amphibious biplane will carry two passengers and the pilot.

But it's certainly a big-boy ... or big-girl toy. The starting price for the YMF-5F will be just south of $600,000. The airplane is currently being finalized, and Bowers said he is looking forward to seeing the looks on people's faces as they taxi into the Seaplane Base at AirVenture this summer.
