Jonathan Gaffney To Address First 2010 Wichita Aero Club Meeting

President Of The National Aeronautic Association Kicks Off The Year

The Wichita Aero Club will launch its 2010 schedule by hosting Jonathan Gaffney, President of the National Aeronautic Association as the guest speaker for its first monthly luncheon on January 19.

The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) is the record-keeper for United States aviation. All official records set in the air must be sanctioned by the NAA's Contest & Records department. The organization provides observers for many record attempts and compiles all the data necessary to certify records.  A non-profit 501 (c ) (3) entity  "dedicated to the advancement of the art, sport and science of aviation in the United States."   The NAA's scope encompasses all areas of flight - from skydiving and models to commercial airlines and military fighters. It also hosts an online database listing all current records and record-holders.

Jonathan Gaffney became 31st President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Aeronautic Association on July 9, 2007. He has led a revival of corporate and individual support for the organization, helping to increase corporate contributions to NAA by 86%, re-establishing strong, professional relationships with NAA's corporate partners, air sport affiliates, and associated aero clubs, and strengthening NAA Board involvement.  NAA also presents the industry's most prestigious awards each year, including the Robert Collier Trophy, the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, the Katherine Wright Trophy, and numerous other awards.

Prior to arriving at NAA, Mr. Gaffney served for 12 years as the Vice President for Communications of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the operators of Washington Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airports.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh (M.A.,'88) and Quinnipiac University (B.S. '83), he recently completed a 22-year career as an Officer in the Navy Reserve, retiring with the rank of Commander. Prior to his work in aviation, he served for five years as a senior staff member in the United States House of Representatives as Legislative Director to Congressman Jim Moran.

The Wichita Aero Club was founded in October of 2008 to foster and promote interest in aviation, provide a forum focused on the industry's issues and achievements and bring together those with a passion for flight.
