Finding The Best Cold Cuisine At Oshkosh

We Had A Secret Shopper Out On The AirVenture Grounds

By Maria Morrison

Finally, after days of searching, I have reached my goal; to find AirVenture’s best ice cream.

First, I would like to recognize a certain frozen treat that could not participate in this contest, the lemon freeze. A treat that cuts the heat, this is great to cool down with, but isn't an ice cream.

With that, let us get on with the contest!

In fourth place we have the dove ice cream bar. Vanilla ice cream with a dark chocolate cover, this traditional ice cream bar is great, especially for chocolate lovers, but does not have the special taste that I am looking for.

In third place is the M&M cookie ice cream sandwich, available at most of the ice cream stands. A soft cookie with crunchy M&Ms, this is a quick treat that quickly revitalizes and energizes you so you can keep on walking and watching. However, the M&Ms are frozen and hard to bite into, and sometimes the cookie is so rich that just a couple bits is enough.

In second place is the mint ice cream at the food courts. Mint is naturally refreshing and a great way to cool off. This ice cream has large chocolate chips and cool green ice cream. It is even better topped with some hot fudge. Unfortunately, the ice cream is almost soupy and a bit too filling, with very big portion.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, the final decision on the best ice cream in AirVenture. The winner is... Colonial Cheese House and Gifts! With five different flavors from Cedar Crest ice cream, the Cheese House has the creamiest, most flavorful ice creams that I could find. They have chocolate, french vanilla, butter pecan, bubblegum, and carmel collision. Root beer floats are also available for the same price of $3.00. Available in cones and dishes, the Cheese House has a great ice cream selection. I tried the caramel collision, which was the creamiest ice cream I have ever tried. The Cheese House also has cheese and sausage. Hopefully it will be back at it's location by the bus barn on Waukau Ave next year.

(Editors' Note. 12-year-old  Maria Morrison (yes, we did say 12) spent the week volunteering for Aero-News, bringing you her unique perspective of AirVenture. A writer for her school newspaper, we were very pleased to have her contributions for your enjoyment this past week. We think she has a bright future as a journalist.)
