Fourth Hawker Horizon Joins Certification Program

RC4 Flies In Final Production Configuration

Raytheon Aircraft’s fourth Hawker Horizon entered the certification test program yesterday with its first flight. Hawker Horizon RC-4 lifted off from Beech Field at 11:53 a.m. CDT and flew for 90 minutes.  Senior test pilot Tim Miller, co-pilot Ken Sasine and flight test engineer Amin Gulamhussein conducted a series of functional tests with speeds ranging from 135 to 340 knots at 15,000 feet.

"This aircraft represents the final production configuration, and we were very pleased with the results of the first flight," said David Riemer, Vice President – Product Development and Engineering.

The fourth Hawker Horizon will conduct FAA Function and Reliability testing as part of the certification effort.  In addition, it will participate in an operational evaluation that will ensure a successful entry into service and full customer satisfaction prior to initial deliveries. Certification and deliveries are expected by the end of this year.

For its first flight, RC-4’s cabin was fitted with interior components, including sidewalls, headliners and lav and cabin doors. "The Horizon’s composite fuselage allows us to build interior components that can be installed in the airplane with virtually no trim-to-fit changes required," said Brad Hatt, President/General Manager of the Hawker Division.  "This reduces the amount of time required to install, provides great component interchangeability, and enhances the overall interior." Each Hawker Horizon interior will be installed at the company’s Little Rock facility, where Hawker 800XPs are now completed.

The Hawker Horizon offers an outstanding combination of range, speed and cabin size. An NBAA IFR range of 3,100 nm with six passengers is guaranteed, assuring the ability to cross the U.S. non-stop against almost any wind. A maximum range of more than 3,400 nm provides trans-Atlantic capability and additional performance flexibility.

The Horizon fuselage is made with the advanced composite technology.  Built in three sections, the Horizon fuselage features a 72-inch stand-up cabin and 77.5-inch width.

A flat floor runs the entire length of the aircraft, leading to a large baggage area. The baggage compartment is accessible on the ground through an exterior door or during flight through the cabin.

The Hawker Horizon will be delivered with a comprehensive customer support package and will be served by Raytheon Aircraft’s global network of company-owned and independent service centers.
