TAP Airbus Makes Drastic Maneuvers To Avoid Mid-Air

More than two dozen people were injured when a TAP-Air Portugal aircraft entered a sudden, steep dive to avoid a mid-air collision near Lajes Field in the Azores.

The Airbus A310 (file photo of type, above) was flying from Lisbon and was on approach when the cockpit crew suddenly pitched over and very quickly lost more than 6,000 feet in altitude to avoid a twin Beech.

Initial reports said 31 of the 131 people on board were hurt in the sudden maneuver. Local news reports say those who were injured weren't wearing their seat belts.

A TAP spokeswoman had no information on the other plane.
