NASA's STS-115 Prelaunch Briefing
Pressed for time... with a full and complex set of tasks
ahead... the space shuttle Atlantis is once again set for a Friday
morning launch. This... after five launch scrubs.
Some were caused by weather -- but Wednesday's launch was
terminated because of a glitch in a small electric pump motor that
supplies coolants to one of the shuttle's three fuel cells. NASA
says even though this doesn't qualify as a violation of its launch
criteria, it scrubbed Wednesday's launch because they were truly
baffled by the glitch.
Thursday night, mission managers briefed reporters on their
plans to go ahead with the countdown toward a Friday launch... even
though they're still just as unsure of the glitch as they were
earlier in the week. Let's listen in to Thursday night's
briefing.
This feature is in addition to our daily news briefing --
available in either a quick "Touch And Go" format, or an expanded
Aero-Briefing -- where you'll hear these stories:
Atlantis is ready to go... again...
High times, or desperate times at Northwest? Hundreds of
flight attendants are about to be recalled from furlough.
And Israel promises this is the end of its air blockade over
Lebanon....
...And more.
