Almost Official: EAA's Young Eagle Program -- One Million!

EAA To Announce Young Eagle #1,000,000's Name On Thursday

EAA will be talking, officially, at a Thursday news conference in recognition of a truly remarkable aviation achievement. On Nov. 13, EAA will announce the name of the 1 millionth Young Eagle flown by EAA member-pilots. The historic announcement will be made at 11 a.m.

Young Eagle No. 1,000,000, along with his or her parents, and the pilot of that particular Young Eagles flight, will be invited to Kitty Hawk, N.C., next month to participate in EAA's Countdown to Kitty Hawk celebration, presented by Ford Motor Company, which commemorates 100 years of powered flight.

During that event, the Young Eagle will be flown by Gen. Chuck Yeager, Chairman of the Young Eagles Program and the first person to fly faster than the speed of sound.  That flight will recognize the 1 million Young Eagles introduced to flight by the program and the 35,000 volunteer pilots who made the achievement possible.

The Young Eagles Program was started in 1992 to introduce young people to the world of flight through a free demonstration flight.  Since that time, Young Eagles flights have been held on six continents involving aircraft from business jets to blimps.
