FAA Names Chuck McGill As Western Region CFI Of The Year

Re-enacted Lindbergh's Atlantic Crossing In 1987... In A Cessna T-210

Aero-News has learned a San Diego, CA-area Master CFI, Chuck McGill, was recently named by the FAA as the Western Pacific Region 2009 CFI of the Year.

McGill has been an active CFI for 28 years and has over 11,000 flight hours. He has served as a volunteer Safety Counselor for the FAA SAN FSDO for over 20 years. His aircraft are based at Montgomery Field in San Diego.

In addition to his own teaching activities, Chuck taught for the AOPA Air Safety Foundation for many years, and currently teaches for the Mooney (MAPA) Safety Foundation and the Cessna Pilot's Association 210 Course.

McGill specializes in Advanced Avionics training (Garmin G1000, GNS530/430, etc) and Type Training in the Cessna 210 Series aircraft and the late model Mooney Acclaim, Bravo, Ovation and "252" aircraft. His type training courses are approved for initial and recurrent training by most insurance underwriters in the Cessna 210 Series aircraft, all Mooney M20 aircraft and the Beech A/B-36 and A/B-36TC aircraft.

In May 1987, he re-enacted Lindbergh's crossing of the Atlantic in his T-210, receiving the Medal of Paris. His personal flying experiences have taken him in his own airplane throughout the United States, to Canada, Alaska, Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, Ireland, England, The Netherlands and France.

Chuck holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Management, an MBA in Finance and Marketing, and is a former adjunct professor of Aeronautics at National University. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, US Marine Corps.
