Campaign Collects Data To Help With Future Concepts

NASA and Joby Aviation teamed up on Monday, August 30th to start the flight testing for Joby’s all-electric takeoff and landing aircraft. This testing will go through Friday, September 10th in Big Sur at Joby’s Electric Flight Base. This will mark the first time NASA will test an eVTOL aircraft as part of their Advanced Air Mobility National Campaign. The goal of these tests are to help NASA collect performance and acoustic data for use in future airspace concepts.

A drone camera caught an arsonist in the act of starting a forest fire, in Montesarchio, Italy about 30 miles NE of Naples. He is depicted in the video lighting the fire with a cigarette lighter before walking away. An unnamed suspect was arrested nearby and described by Police as a 50 year old sheep and goat farmer. On August 15, about 1847 mountain daylight time, a Cessna 182H, N8477S, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Bountiful, Utah. The pilot and two passengers were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2019-12-05 for certain CFM International S.A. (CFM) CFM56-5B, CFM56-5C, and CFM56-7B model turbofan engines with a certain rotating air high-pressure turbine (HPT) front seal. AD 2019-12-05 required replacement of the affected rotating air HPT front seal with a part eligible for installation. This AD was prompted by cracks found in the rotating air HPT front seal. This AD requires replacement of affected rotating air HPT front seals installed on CFM CFM56-5B, CFM56-5C, and CFM56-7B model turbofan engines that have fewer cycles since being reconfigured than the engines affected by AD 2019-12-05. AD 2021-16-06 Prompted By The Determination That Additional Parts May Be Susceptible To The Unsafe Condition

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2020-19-11 for certain Leonardo S.p.a. Model A119 and AW119 MKII helicopters. AD 2020-19-11 required repetitive borescope inspections of the 90-degree tail rotor gearbox (TGB) and depending on the inspection results, removing the TGB from service. This AD was prompted by the determination that additional parts may be susceptible to the unsafe condition. This AD retains the inspection requirements of AD 2020-19-11, and revises the compliance time and applicability. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective September 27, 2021.

Abbreviated IFR Flight Plans An authorization by ATC requiring pilots to submit only that information needed for the purpose of ATC. It includes only a small portion of the usual IFR flight plan information. In certain instances, this may be only aircraft identification, location, and pilot request. Other information may be requested if needed by ATC for separation/control purposes. It is frequently used by aircraft which are airborne and desire an instrument approach or by aircraft which are on the ground and desire a climb to VFR-on-top.
