EAA joined 14 other aviation organizations in jointly opposing a bill in the House of Representatives that includes a cap on flight training benefits available to United States military veterans. H.R.4874, the bill in question, caps payments for flight training programs and virtually guarantees that U.S. veterans seeking to use their GI Bill benefits to pursue a career as a professional pilot will not have the necessary funds provided to complete flight training. Other degree programs at public colleges or universities are not capped in a similar manner, meaning fields involving flight training are unfairly disadvantaged.

The Army has made some decisions that are likely to be unpopular among their Aviation Warrant Officers (AWO). The Army's new initiative has been undertaken to 'provide aviation warrant officers more time for professional development at junior ranks.' Army directive, AD 2021-31, approved Sept. 10, 2021, and effective Oct. 1, 2021, will reset the time required for aviator warrant officers (military occupational specialty 152 through 155) to be promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2.

Satellite Will Launch Directly To Geostationary Orbit, Hastening Broadband Service For Alaska

Astranis' first commercial communications satellite, set to provide service for Alaska from geostationary orbit, will now launch as a secondary payload on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket on a direct-inject mission set for Spring 2022. The mission profile will allow the spacecraft to arrive at its orbital slot within days of launch and removes the need for a multiple-month orbit raise from a highly-elliptical geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). “Launching on Falcon Heavy will get us on-orbit months faster, allowing us to serve customers in Alaska that much sooner. This is a huge win for our customers in Alaska.”

Company Has Committed To An $11 Million Investment

Milwaukee headquartered FBO, Jet In, has announced plans to break ground on its new facility at the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. An $11 million investment will permit the development of the last greenfield parcel on the airport into the premier facility for general aviation in the state of Wisconsin. The facility will provide a full complement of services and amenities, including heated hangars capable of accommodating the largest general aviation aircraft. A thoughtfully designed terminal will incorporate the latest technology advancements and will cater to the needs of passengers and flight crew.

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2020-26-02, which applied to certain Yaborã Industria Aeronáutica S.A. (type certificate previously held by Embraer S.A.) Model ERJ 190-400 airplanes. AD 2020-26-02 required amending the existing airplane flight manual (AFM) to incorporate a new limitation and revise certain normal procedures. This AD retains those requirements and also requires upgrading the electronic engine control (EEC) software, as specified in an Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC) AD, which is incorporated by reference. The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Pratt & Whitney PW1500G and PW1900G series turbofan engines with a certain high-pressure turbine (HPT) 1st-stage hub or HPT rotor 1st-stage blade retaining plate installed. This AD was prompted by a report from the manufacturer who determined that the HPT 1st-stage hub and HPT rotor 1st-stage blade retaining plate fail to meet the published life-cycle limits for each part. This AD requires removal and replacement of the HPT 1st-stage hub and HPT rotor 1st-stage blade retaining plate prior to reaching certain cycle limits.
