FAA Proposes $5.4 Million Civil Penalty For US Airways, $3.8 Million For United

Says Airline Flew Over 1600 Flights With Aircraft Not In Compliance With AD's

The FAA has proposed a $5.4 million civil penalty against US Airways, Inc. for allegedly operating eight aircraft on a total of 1,647 flights from October 2008 to January 2009 while not in compliance with certain Airworthiness Directives (ADs) or the airline's maintenance program.

Preliminary Findings Are That Airplane Was Almost 200 Pounds Over Gross

The NTSB has released its preliminary findings in an aborted takeoff in Fairmont, West Virginia that injured four people, two of the seriously. They found that the aircraft was 192 pounds over maximum gross weight at the time of the attempted departure.

Threw A Rock, Shined A Spotlight At Low-Flying Agricultural Helo

A Blenheim, New Zealand man appeared in court in Wellington Monday after he allegedly threw a rock at a helicopter trying to protect a vineyard from frost, and then shining a spotlight into the cockpit of the aircraft.
