Vashko and his student, Casey Mattuck, had just taken off from Schaumberg Regional Airport when the engine of their Piper Warrior quit, forcing the men to land on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway. Vashko came forward, in part, to deny reports the accident occured because the airplane ran out of fuel.
