Popular Fractional Program Involved in First Fatal
Accident
ANN has learned that the popular AirShares Elite GA Fractional
program has experienced its first major accident as a 2006 SR22,
N665CD, went down while attempting an arrival in Charlotte-Douglas
Airport ahead of inclement weather. The 4 place Cirrus went down in
a heavily wooded area near Allison Ferry Rd., with only one
confirmed POB, who was declared dead at the scene.

The team working on ESA's Rosetta mission have been particularly
busy in November. Activities are underway to set the spacecraft's
trajectory, and prepare the on-board instruments ready for the next
major mission milestone: the swing-by of planet Mars in February
2007.
They're gonna try again... and they'll have some help. Aero-News
has learned satellite communications provider Blue Sky Network will
support the Polar First helicopter team in their second attempt to
set a record for circumnavigating the globe by way of the North and
South Poles.

Aero-News learned Thursday the Boeing Company has delivered the
second EA-18G Growler airborne electronic attack (AEA) aircraft to
the US Navy test site at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River,
MD.

Boeing Business Jets has just delivered its 100th "green" --
unfurnished -- airplane. Representatives of the government of India
accepted the milestone airplane at the Boeing Delivery Center in
Seattle.
First Night Launch Since Shuttle Returned To Flight
NASA senior managers have unanimously recommended launching the
Space Shuttle Discovery on December 7. Commander Mark Polansky and
his six crewmates are scheduled to lift off at 9:35 p.m. EST on the
STS-116 mission, one of the most challenging flights to continue
building the International Space Station.
Another fuel starvation accident... that's what the National

The Department of Defense has announced the identity of an
airman listed as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown (DUSTWUN). Maj.
Troy L. Gilbert was the pilot of an Air Force F-16C engaged in
support of coalition ground combat operations that crashed
approximately 20 miles northwest of Baghdad Nov. 27.

Eclipse CEO Takes His Lumps, But Assures Ultimate Success
ANN recently printed a letter
Eclipse CEO Vern Raburn sent to Eclipse customers waiting for jets
they've ordered. The letter answered many questions about the
company's problems getting its now fully-certified VLJ into to
production, but we felt there was more to the story and asked him
to speak briefly with us.
Vanderbilt University is spearheading a study of rotorcraft
reliability. The five-year, $1.5-million project was commissioned
by the FAA, which says it's responding to the unusual increase
in the number of chopper accidents.
It's either one or the other for EADS: find more money, or find
a way to cut costs -- that's the only way the company will ever get
Airbus' A350 XWB program off the ground.
Phil Boyer, president of AOPA and the International Council
of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) recently sent
appeals to United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and
Brazil’s minister of justice, Márcio Thomaz Bastos,
asking for their assistance in securing the release of two U.S.
pilots who have been detained in Brazil for seven weeks.
Just in time for the holiday travel season, flight attendants at
Northwest Airlines say they won't give up in their battle against
pay cuts imposed by the carrier.
Though its future as a stand-alone character remains uncertain,
Delta Air Lines announced Wednesday plans to recall approximately
200 additional pilots in 2007.
Aircraft mishap reports can be tremendously instructive. The
tragedy of accidents may be lessened, slightly, if we are able to
learn lessons from others' experience, and avoid similar mishaps in
the future.
