The problem lay in the fact that the F-16 is so fast and the Aeronca is so slow. The F-16 pilot finally got Hargrove's attention by firing flares. Hargrove landed at Merritt Island Airport (FL), was questioned and eventually continued on to his destination in Boca Raton (FL).
