He Reportedly Injured A Federal Agent Attempting To Re-Enter
The U.S.
28-year-old Joshua
Paul Calhoun allegedly stole an airplane, crashed it in the Texas
desert, and told authorities he had bought it online when
questioned about the incident.
But Calhoun's problems don't end there. He's currently being
sought on federal charges that he injured a federal agent while
attempting to cross back into the U.S. from Mexico and fleeing from
prosection.
The Tyler Morning Telegraph reports that Calhoun in under
indictment for the March 4th theft of an airplane from Athens
Municipal Airport, which he crashed in a field shortly after
takeoff. He failed to show up for a court hearing, and it was
determined he was in Mexico.
Henderson County District Attorney Scott McKee told the paper
"According to a criminal complaint filed in the United States
District Court, the same day Calhoun was due in court, he attempted
to re-enter the United States at the international bridge between
Mexico and the U.S. in Roma. When questioned about the purpose of
his trip to Mexico, Calhoun told agents he was a doctor who had
gone south of the border to scout locations for a new office,
according to the federal complaint."
When he tried to return to the U.S., he was stopped and asked
about the nature of his trip to Mexico. After checking a federal
criminal database, agents asked Calhoun to step aside for further
questioning. "Immigration agents asked him to step outside of his
truck, but Calhoun took off instead. A female agent, who had
reached into the driver's side window for the keys, sustained
bruises, a scratched right elbow and back injuries before the truck
managed to shake her loose," McKee said.
Calhoun, who remains at large, is now facing federal
charges for his flight from the Border patrol.
