If It Can Be Flown, I/ITSEC Members Can Simulate It
Thanks to the able guidance of the folks of I/ITSEC, especially
their John Williams, the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation
and Education Conference, Aero-TV got a good long look at some of
the impressive simulation and training technologies being brought
to our defense by military training operations.
Just a few weeks ago at the annual I/ITSEC Conference, Aero-TV
spent several days flying and researching some of the most exotic
and impressive technologies in the aerospace world... whether you
were trying to help pilots land Hawkeyes on a carrier, fly serious
air combat profiles against dissimilar aircraft, or dock future
spacecraft (that do not yet exist) at the ISS.
This year's conference hosted approximately 16,750 total
registrants, including over 4,000 conference delegates, over 9,000
exhibit personnel and some 4,400 exhibit visitors. 539 exhibiting
companies staffed those in 440 exhibits, while the attendance
breakdown drew about 3,500 government registrants (3,000 US, 500
non-US), and a total of 1,900++ International registrants from 57
countries.
The I/ITSEC organization was brought forth to promote
cooperation among the Armed Services, Industry, Academia and
various Government agencies in pursuit of improved training and
education programs, identification of common training issues and
development of multi-service programs. Initiated in 1966 as the
Naval Training Device Center/Industry Conference, the conference
has evolved and expanded through increased participation by the
Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Industry. In 1979
it became known as the Interservice/Industry Training Equipment
Conference.
Over the course of three intense days, ANN Aero-TV crews got an
eyeful... a full gamut of military aviation and aerospace
technologies... as well as some commercial applications (wait til
you see what this crowd does with Microsoft Flight Simulator X --
WOW!!!). Aero-TV has a number of other intriguing stories about
specific simulation and training technologies and/or products that
were on display at I/ITSEC 2007... keep an eye for those exciting
programs!

Time!!!!
OK, folks, here we go... we are NOW initiating the first
feature programming series for Aero-TV... we're going to take it
slow, but we're also going to try and be steady about this. DO
UNDERSTAND that this is the most complex media program we've ever
undertaken and what you're seeing is just the tip of the iceberg...
but from here on out, we will be doing our best to educate,
inform, and entertain YOU about all aspects of the exciting worlds
of aviation and aerospace.
If you've been an observer of the media and associated media
industries over the last few years, it's not hard to mistake the
fact that a massive revolution is taking place. Old sources for
news and information are falling by the wayside, having to change
their modus operandi or risk obsolescence (or extinction).
Electronic media and print media are both under the assault of
progress, and the online world has been a cornerstone for
revolutionary change.
We've been ready to go for a while, but to be honest, there's so
much more to this program than we've alluded to, and so we've been
building and planning a massive new organization within ANN. That
said, we're hiring talented new people as
fast as we can find them (a far more difficult
task than we had imagined -- REALLY good people are hard to find),
and we're brainstorming at speeds that would make a deorbiting
Space Shuttle feel like a slug. Suffice it to say that we wanted to
do this right, rather than right-now, and that the development of
this program has been the most carefully pursued undertaking we've
ever undertaken.
