Centuria To Provide Comprehensive Life-Cycle Support For
Weather Infrastructure
A Mission Support Information Technology Services (MSITS) task
order for comprehensive life-cycle support for the Next Generation
Radar (NEXRAD) network has been awarded to Centuria under the
Veterans Technology Services (VETS) Government-Wide Acquisition
program. NEXRAD is operated by the NWS, the FAA, and the U.S. Air
Force. Centuria is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small
Business, and the task order has a 10-year period of performance
and a ceiling value of approximately $97 million.
Under this task order, Centuria will support ongoing base
operations and maintenance to the nation's weather radar
infrastructure. Specific services include systems integration,
proprietary software development, systems and software testing,
data management, and systems documentation, as well as engineering
support for special projects, such as radar product or system
improvements and possible radar relocation.
The Radar Operations Center (ROC), headquartered in Norman,
Oklahoma, provides national and international weather radar data
used by the Department of Commerce, Department of Defense,
Department of Transportation, and Department of Homeland Security,
as well as radio and television stations across the country. The
NEXRAD network of 167 weather radar sites forms the foundation of
all national weather forecasting, and collects data for extreme
weather notification and safety systems, military operations, and
emergency management systems. NEXRAD data is also used by the FAA
as an overlay on flight radar to enhance flight safety.
Centuria partnered with Serco Inc., which continues more than 12
years of legacy support to the ROC. The two companies bring to bear
more than 500 years of collective, direct NEXRAD experience,
translating to a zero-risk transition for the customer. "The
Centuria leadership team -- including Program Manager, Bill
Deringer -- continues a decade of veteran, onsite support that has
earned the trust of our customer," stated Tim Green, Centuria's
Chief Operations Officer. "We are honored to be chosen to support
the NWS under this contract."
