Ghana Airways 'Losing Millions' Daily

State Carrier Still Banned From US Skies

Grounded by US authorities, Ghana Airways is reportedly losing money hand-over-fist as the number of stranded passengers piles up on both sides of the Atlantic.

Ghana's Joy Business Report says the airline is providing accommodations for at least 800 stranded passengers.

The Joy Report says Ghana Airways tried to lease an aircraft from US provider Chapman Freemon, but that talks fell through when the charter company demanded $150,000 up front.

"It is not possible to do such a thing," Ghana Airways CEO Akua Sarpong was quoted as saying. "We don’t know why he is doing that because in the past our checks have not bounced. I cannot carry thousands of dollars in a bag to him when I have not even seen the aircraft, it is not possible."
