New Language Could Allow For Second ILS
San Leandro (CA) city officials are taking another look at an
addendum to their four-year old settlement with the Oakland Port
Authority over an ILS system and a noise abatement agreement
stemming from plans to expand Oakland International Airport.
As part of the deal, the port authority agreed to "insulate"
about 200 San Leandro homes against airport noise, according to the
Daily Review newspaper. In return, the 2000 agreement allows
Oakland International to add 12 gates, a new terminal and a 6,000
space parking garage between now and 2010.
The agreement also gives the airport the option of moving an ILS
from Runway 27 Right to 27 Left. The addendum gives the airport the
choice of moving the ILS or adding a new one, with the provision
that it doesn't increase air traffic at the airport's North
