Weather Temporarily Grounds Wright Model 'B'

Stealth Fighter, Bomber Fly Through

There was an air show planned for the time before the Tournament of Roses parade, and it was to have featured some historic aircraft, from the Wright Model 'B' (1910) to WWII representatives. The weather wasn't VFR-enough, though; so the pair of B-25s, a pair of P-51s, and a P-40 sat on the ground at China (oops -- Chino, CA), instead of thrilling the crowds during the parade.

The Wright replica, trucked in from Dayton (OH) by Wright B Flyer Inc, and assembled by eigh volunteers over two days, was scheduled to have followed a fly-by by a B-2B 'Spirit' stealth bomber. The B-2 wasn't hampered by the weather; neither were a pair of F-117 "stealth fighters."

Wright machine made it to the Game, though!

During the game, the B-2 and the F-117s made a pass over the Rose Bowl; the Wright replica finally got better weather, and it flew over the game.

In the entire area, though, General Aviation was embargoed from airspace, for hours, because those little planes are a threat to national security (or at least, according to those who run things, to the security of the football fans)...
