Ivan Threatens Virginia State EAA Fly-In

Organizers Take Wait And See Approach

From Dee Whittington at the Virginia State EAA Fly-In...

With thousands of hours of preparation for the 8th Annual Virginia State EAA Fly-in scheduled for this coming weekend, September 18-19, at the Dinwiddie County Airport (PTB) near Petersburg, the Council is announcing a plan to let the public know of the status of the fly-in in case Hurricane Ivan threatens the central Virginia area this weekend.

We certainly hope that our 8th Annual Virginia State EAA Fly-in has sunny weather. HOWEVER, at this point we are very worried that Hurricane Ivan may cause a significant problem. After last year's experience with Hurricane Isabel, we have put in place a contingency plan. If the Council is forced to cancel the fly-in, that decision will be made as early as possible and put on our web site NO LATER than 48 hours before the event which means some time Wednesday at the latest. Please keep checking our web site, for our decision to proceed or cancel.

The likelihood is the show will go on with 27 forums, two workshops, a six-act air show, lots of activities for kids, a pancake breakfast each day, aircraft judging and a FlyMart filled with airplane parts. So, if you live in the Mid-East Coast, plan to attend Saturday or Sunday.

(Good luck, Dee! -- ed.)
