On April 8th through April 10th, in Orlando, Florida, hundreds
attended the 53rd Annual AEA International Convention & Trade
Show; founded in 1957, the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA)
represents more than 1,300 industry affiliates associated with the
general aviation avionics and electronics systems.
During that tumultuous week Mid-Continent's MD835 Emergency
Power Supply was introduced, having recently received TSO
certification from the FAA. Rigorous RTCA DO-160 environmental
testing and DO-311 testing for Rechargeable Lithium Systems was
conducted to receive TSO approval.
"The MD835 features Lithium Nanophosphate technology, something
never-before used in an emergency power supply. We are excited to
bring this advancement in aviation to the market," stated Tom
Genovese, Director of Sales for Mid-Continent Instruments. "The AML
STC is progressing and expected to be completed within 90 days,"
according to Brett Williams, Engineering Manager. Mid-Continent is
partnering with AeroMech Inc. to seek an Approved Model List (AML)
STC, covering a wide range of Part 23 aircraft. The Beechcraft King
Air 200 will be used as the baseline certification aircraft.
The MD835 is the industry's first emergency power supply
featuring Lithium Nanophosphate technology. This alternative cell
chemistry offers distinct advantages over standard lead-acid
designs including weight, maintenance costs and life expectancy.
The MD835 may be used as a direct replacement for older L-3
Avionics PS-835 units.
Weighing 4.8 pounds - the MD835 power supply is 8 pounds lighter
than similar products. Retrofit is convenient and affordable
because the 4.5 amp-hour battery system uses the same mating
connector and mounts in a standard 1/4 ATR rack. New Lithium
technology improves useful life by requiring a bi-annual capacity
check as opposed to the traditional 12-month requirement of
existing models. The 10-year life expectancy is more than three
times that of the nearest competition.
