Kenneth Steenrod, Jr. Appointed EAA Young Eagles Chapter 980 Coordinator

Plans Event In September As Part Of The Southeast Kansas Fly-In

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Mid-America Chapter 980, Independence, KS, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenneth Steenrod, Jr. (pictured) to the position of Young Eagles Chapter Coordinator.

The Young Eagles Program, which was launched in 1992, is the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire youth in the world of aviation.

Young Eagles flights will be a highlight of the upcoming Southeast Kansas Fly-in, whose theme is “Celebrating the Joy of Flight”. The event will take place on September 14th at the Independence Municipal Airport (KIDP). Admission is free.
The Young Eagles program has dedicated more than 25 years to providing young people, ages 8–17, with their first ride in an airplane.

Nearly two million kids have enjoyed their first flying experience, free of charge, through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. Pre-qualified pilots will provide free flights to approximately 200 registered youth participants at the September 14th event. Information regarding online registration will be forthcoming.

EAA Young Eagles Chapter Coordinators facilitate and promote Safe Young Eagles events within the EAA Chapter network. Steenrod will serve as a vital link between the Chapter and the Young Eagles Office.

Steenrod lives in Parsons, KS, and has been flying since he was fourteen years old. He is licensed as both a private and commercial pilot. He owns a 1969 Rockwell Lark Aero Commander, one of only a handful of Larks still flying throughout the world.
