An Airborne Nut And Some Heroes

No, Were Not Talking About Snacks Or Sandwiches

Quick, you see a man dressed in military fatigues trying to pull open the door of the airliner you're on -- what do you do? Well, if you're Ken Wolfenberger you get up and stop him -- at least, that's what he did on United Airlines flight 890 out of Los Angeles en route to Dulles Tuesday night.

Wolfenberger told the Associated Press that the man had been acting strangely from the time they boarded. Three-and-a-half hours into the flight, just when everyone was getting used to the fatigues with Special Forces and jujitsu patches, the man wrapped belts around his hands and started throwing punches in the air.

Wolfenberger says he heard a flight attendant yell for help, and then yell at the man to take his hand off the handle.

"Any time you hear a flight attendant shout 'please help,' you worry that something pretty bad is going to happen," he said.

That was enough to spur Wolfenberger and several other passengers into action. They pummeled the war hero/martial arts expert, wrestled him to the ground and held him until onboard Air Marshals took him into custody.

The crew decided the Marshals and the passengers had the situation under control.  They continued to a scheduled, and blissfully uneventful, landing at Dulles -- where the unruly passenger got to spend some "quality" time with the FBI and airport police.

Now, eventually people will figure out you can't do crazy things on airliners in America any more, won't they?
