Van's Working on LSA!

A Bargain RV Coming In Late 2006/Early '07?

Van's Aircraft's Tom Green has disclosed that the design shop at "RV Central" is at it again. He reports that, "A new light sport aircraft is on our windscreen but it will be some time before we can provide actual design data or information. Ken Scott will begin reporting any progress on the LSA in the next RVator (Van's in-house publication -- a highly recommended read).

Here are some general criteria that Van’s is considering for our LSA design:

  • First, we will build a POC aircraft (Proof of Concept). It will be an all new design rather than a re-design or variation of any previous RV.
  • It will not be available for sale in any form until late 2006 or early 2007.
  • It will initially be available only as an experimental category amateur built kit rather than a fly away LSA.
  • The engine will most likely be a Rotax 912S at 80 or 100 hp.
  • It will be a side by side two place.
  • It will be a low wing.
  • It will be a tricycle gear configuration."

So.... chances are, it'll look like an RV-6A/7A/9A (file photo of RV-6A shown below) and as most Van's birds do, it ought to be a great little flyer -- we can't wait to try it out.

We'll keep you updated...
