Banyan Completes High Speed Data And Direct TV Upgrade On Challenger

Installation Was Performed At The Aircraft Owners Home Base

Admittedly, its for the folks in the back and not the ones up front flying the airplane. Still, Banyan Air Service based at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport recently completed an avionics installation on a Bombardier Challenger (CL-604). The installation was done at the customer's home base during a minimum maintenance inspection.

"We recently needed upgrades to our Challenger which included EMS High Speed Data, DirectTV (TW300), and Blue Ray DVD with HD monitors. The Banyan avionics group answered the call in record time while providing the high quality install that is expected for this type of aircraft. These experienced technicians take pride in their work and have continued to furnish support as we learn and fine tune these very capable systems," said Matt Olsen, Lead Captain, CL-604.

The existing tail section was modified and outfitted with a Radome to encompass two parabolic antennas, which was installed by Anthony Bessellieu of Banyan's structural modifications team.  The EMS Aviation High Speed Data terminal was augmented with their CNX-200 Router, Voice and Data services were provided by industry leader Satcom Direct.  The installation was supervised by Banyan's Nick Swanepoel and engineered by Bill Augustine.

"Internet and email access is what the business traveler wants, they have it in the workplace, in their homes, even in the local coffee shop, and so why not have it when on board their aircraft. The Direct TV system allows the passengers to watch their favorite channels like CNN Headline News and ESPN" stated Brian Wilson, Banyan's Director of Avionics. "Since downtime is critical and movement of an aircraft like a CL-604 is expensive, the customer was pleased with the flexibility we offered by doing the work in their hangar."

In addition to High Speed Data and Direct TV, the Banyan avionics team offers comprehensive avionics installations, repairs, modifications, and is an authorized dealer for all major avionics manufacturers.  They have extensive installation experience with flight deck upgrades, glass cockpits, cockpit voice recorders, flight data recorders, electronic flight bags, enhanced ground proximity warning systems, multifunction displays, satellite communications, Iridium, and traffic alert collision avoidance systems.  Banyan's avionics department is certified as both an FAA and EASA repair station and has also earned repair station designations for Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela.
