Flight Design Announces Factory Expansion

Majority of Increased CT Production Bound For US

Flight Design, reportedly the sales leader of S-LSAs in the United States, is expanding its manufacturing facility to increase production capabilities.

Matthias Betsch, president of Flight Design Germany, said his company is adding 90,000 square feet to its manufacturing facility in the Ukraine, which will increase production capacity by 200 percent in the next two years. This will allow the company to manufacture more aircraft per year for delivery throughout the world.

“The Ukraine offers our company lower production costs and a very experienced aeronautical work force," said Betsch. "That allows us to produce a high-quality aircraft while keeping our manufacturing costs competitive. We pass that cost-saving along to our customers while still providing a top-tier aircraft for the marketplace."

Flight Design USA, led by Tom Peghiny, will be allocated the largest share of those aircraft -- assuring North American customers a reasonable delivery time after ordering the all-composite light-sport aircraft .

“We’re delighted that Flight Design had the foresight to increase production capacity to serve the growing market in the US and throughout the world," said Peghiny. "Because of its expansion, we’re confident we’ll be able to offer reasonable delivery dates to our customers while still giving them the opportunity to personalize their aircraft to their wants and needs.”

Flight Design boasts more than 600 aircraft delivered since the CTs introduction in 1997, with nearly 100 registered as special light-sport aircraft in the USA.

The all-composite, two-place CT features a 49-inch wide cockpit, is powered by a 100-hp Rotax 912S engine and features a BRS ballistic parachute as standard equipment. With a top speed of 120 knots, CT economy cruises at 112 knots, stalls at 39 knots, and has a range of over 1,000 miles.
