Another Piece Of Trash For Your Inbox

As if we don't have enough spam to deal with, organizers of the annual Sun 'n Fun event have resorted to using the trashy (and potentially illegal) email concept to promote their fading event. One of ANN's loyal readers tipped us off to the Sun 'n Fun's latest headache, which caught him totally off-guard. Apparently, the following email has been sent out to unsuspecting aviators:

If your plans include a visit to Sun 'n Fun this year.  Take advantage of our new online ticket sales.  Purchase your Sun 'n Fun convention registration online today.  Go to...(web address deleted) .
 
We look forward to your visit in April.

Sun 'n Fun 2004 - April 13 - 19

Our reader informed us the Sun 'n Fun email was unsolicited, and worse, the email address from which the spam was sent was apparently derived from an online newsgroup (and was reportedly used nowhere else). This leads our reader to conclude that the organization is digging through usergroup email listings to gather the necessary data for its intrusive promotional campaign. Experts on spam law suggested that the message does not conform to recent anti-spam legislation.

ANN has invited Sun 'n Fun officials to comment on the matter but has not received a response.
