Here's A Dragster With Really Long Wings

Sunday - SUNDAY - SUNDAY!

You've probably been to an airshow and have seen those races between an airplane and some ground-based speedster such as a racecar or rocket-truck, but a pilot performed a solo speed run of his own at Tulsa Raceway Park instead of the nearby airport in Oklahoma this Sunday.

Sure, airplanes have always been landing at the wrong airport or the wrong runway at some time, but this Piper pilot is probably wondering if maybe he shouldn't have increased his landing speed on approach.

George Dosdal of Albuquerque, NM evidently mistook the 1/2 mile long raceway, with seating for 10,000 fans, for his assigned runway.

An FAA spokesman says the dragstrip does line up right with one of the runways at Tulsa International Airport, and admits it has happened before. He also added that his FAA colleagues might be having a conversation with the would-be drag-plane driver.

But still, you've got to wonder how that Piper would have fared against a 600 horsepower alcohol-fueled fire-breathing funny-car dragster.
