Since leaving AOPA more than ten years ago, Phil has owned two exceptional biplanes (WACO and a Great Lakes), and a Beech A36 traveling machine -- and most recently has completed the building, and

'FAA Flight Training Policy Changes Will Reduce Safety, Create Administrative Logjam'

FAA policy interpretations on flight training arising out of a recent court decision will have a chilling impact on general aviation safety and create a bureaucratic nightmare for pilots and federal officials, according to numerous GA groups including the Experimental Aircraft Association. In a letter sent to FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson, the groups called the policy changes “unnecessary and unwarranted guidelines based on irrational legal positions” and called for the FAA to immediately revise the policy to prevent degraded safety in flight training and unnecessary legal battles. The combined groups noted that they are “prepared to use all

Airborne-Flight Training 06.03.21: SAFE v FAA, ERAU Golden Eagles, Bell 505

Also: Diamond Aircraft Sim, Fairbanks Int'l, NAEC-Aerospace Summer Camp, FAA UAS Symposium

A recent court decision has upheld the FAA’s questionable “cease and desist” order against “Warbird Adventures.” This ruling lets stand an interpretation that threatens the historic role of CFIs as “educators” and will have a negative effect on all flight training (and aviation safety). This action has left CFIs confused and at risk from the greater future liability of “flying for hire,” along with potential regulatory and medical consequences. The Society of A
