The IAC Board of Directors met by teleconference on Friday, 10 July 2020, to discuss the 2020 U.S. National Aerobatic Championships scheduled to be held in Salina, Kansas, 20-24 September 2020. Helo Rescue Takes Place 100 Miles Off Coos Bay, Oregon

Anyone with any experience in the helicopter industry has a healthy respect for the folks who crew USCG rescue helicopters... some of the most difficult flying in the known universe. Day after day, night after night, these folks pull off rescues in some incredibly insane conditions. Most recently; a Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a 26-year-old man Saturday morning off the fishing vessel McKenzie Rose 100 miles west of Coos Bay. The fishing vessel’s captain used a marine radio to hail watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend at approximately 5:30 a.m. to report a member of the crew sustained a head injury and was in need of medical attention.

Prepped Spacesuits Ahead Of Two More Battery Swap Spacewalks

The Expedition 63 crew spent Friday setting up advanced science hardware to explore a wide variety of space phenomena. The International Space Station residents also worked spacesuit maintenance and conducted more eye checks. NASA Flight Engineer Bob Behnken spent the morning swapping furnaces inside the Materials Science Laboratory (MSL) research rack. Fellow NASA  astronaut Doug Hurley joined Behnken and installed the specialized device, known as the Solidification and Quench Furnace (SQF), in the MSL. The SQF will enable scientists to discover new applications for metals, alloys, polymers and more, or design advanced materials for industrial usage.

NY Guard Aviators Team With Rangers On Water Bucket Training

Pilots And Crews Train Each Spring To Prepare For Wildfire Season

New York Army National Guard UH-60 pilots and crew chiefs teamed with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Rangers last month to practice using the $21 million helicopters to fight wildfires on Long Island. Four pilots and two crew chiefs based in Ronkonkoma used two Black Hawk helicopters assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation, to certify in the skills needed to dip a collapsible bucket into a lake or stream, pick up 600 gallons of water, then fly the 2.8-ton load and dump it on a wildfire.

Airplane Began A 4,000-Fpm Descent That Lasted About 12 Seconds

On June 9, 2020, about 0845 mountain standard time, an experimental amateur-built Wilson (Vans Aircraft) RV4, N173CW, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Safford Regional Airport (SAD), Safford, Arizona. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Preliminary ADS-B data revealed the airplane departing from runway 11R at Tucson International Airport (TUS) about 0810, and initiating a climbing left turn to the northeast. The airplane continued on the same track, reaching an altitude of about 9,800 ft mean sea level (msl), about 7 minutes later...

Actual Calculated Landing Time ACLT is a flight’s frozen calculated landing time. An actual time determined at freeze calculated landing time (FCLT) or meter list display interval (MLDI) for the adapted vertex for each arrival aircraft based upon runway configuration, airport acceptance rate, airport arrival delay period, and other metered arrival aircraft. This time is either the vertex time of arrival (VTA) of the aircraft or the tentative calculated landing time (TCLT)/ACLT of the previous aircraft plus the arrival aircraft interval (AAI), whichever is later. This time will not be updated in response to the aircraft’s progress.
