For the second time this year, the Grant-Valkaria Town Council is attempting to restrict aviation activities at Grant-Valkaria airport, including the end of all flight instruction. The move comes despite the fact that they apparently have no jurisdiction to make such a move.

John Weikle, whose "Skybus" super-low-fare airline folded in May of last year, is trying again with JetAmerica even as the airline industry struggles for solvency worldwide.

Oregon’s Aurora State Airport now Wes Lematta Field

Both the Oregon Senate and House of Representatives supported Senate Joint Resolution 8, voting to honor Wes Lamatta's pioneering contributions to helicopter operations, aviation in general, and his philanthropic work throughout Oregon and Washington. As of May 26th, the airport was officially designated "Wes Lamatta Field at Aurora State Airport".

With premium airline seats going unsold in the recession, the world's airlines appear split on the value of first-class upgrades as marketing tools. The New York Times reports British Airways will take delivery of four new long-haul Boeing 777s without First Class seats, and will review each new plane order case-by-case.

One Less Day of Flying to 'Save Money'

The Navy tells ANN that the elite "Blue Angels" demonstration team will cut its Tuesday practice in an effort to save money. The 6 F/A-18 Hornets will continue their Wednesday-Sunday flight schedule, and none of the teams' remaining performances for 2009 have been cut.

High Performance Water Testing Procceds For the ICON A5

For those of us who love airplanes AND boats, you can file this one under "I might want one of those". ICON Aircraft, an early stage Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) manufacturer, has completed a series of rigorous hydrostatic and hydrodynamic tests on the ICON A5 Amphibious Sport Plane. These tests verified the basic hull performance for typical seaplane operations, as well as expanding the envelope into higher winds, rougher sea states, and advanced maneuvering.
