AOPA's Take: TSA Rule For 'DC-3'

Advocacy Group Says Airports' Struggle Continues

As ANN reported Thursday, transient operations will soon be allowed at the "DC-3" airports, albeit on a very restricted basis. While much industry attention has been devoted to reopening Reagan National Airport to general aviation (primarily large business jets), AOPA has focused on the GA airports inside the Washington flight restricted zone (FRZ), repeatedly asking the TSA, FAA, and Congress to allow transient operations at the "DC-3" airports - College Park Airport (CGS), Potomac Airfield (VKX), and Washington Executive/Hyde Field (W32). Now, a small victory.

Congress Mulls Measure To Improve Air Service To Small Communities

Service Would Benefit On-Demand Charter Ops

Congressman Steve Pearce (R-NM) has introduced legislation to improve air transportation to small communities by allowing on-demand air charter operators to conduct limited scheduled service between two destinations.  H.R. 488, "Serving Economies through Aviation and Technology in the 21st Century Act (SEAT 21)," would permit on-demand Part 135 operators to conduct public charter flights, provided the service consists of fewer than five round trips per week.  The purpose of the legislation is to provide supplemental air service to small communities who often lack sufficient scheduled air service.

Aero-News Quote Of The Day (02.11.05)

Source: AOPA President Phil Boyer, after the TSA announced it would allow transient aircraft to operate at the so-called "Maryland Three" -- airports just outside Washington that were effectively shut down in the institution of a post-9/11 ADIZ.
